In the Hands of a Loving Creator

Why is there something rather than nothing?

Who made all this?

Why did God make me?

When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and stars that you set in place—
What is man that you are mindful of him,
and a son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him little less than a god,
crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalms 8:4-6

The Numbers

100 billion = 100,000,000,000

13.8 billion years = 13,800,000,000 years

100,000,000,000 stars x 100,000,000,000 galaxies

= 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars

When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
then I was beside him, like a master workman;
and I was daily his delight,
    rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the sons of men.

Proverbs 8:27-31

God created you because He wants you.

You are not an accident.

You are not unwanted.

He wants you.

And He wants you to know Him.

How can I see this love of God for me?

  • Spend some time looking up at the stars and thinking about the God who made all of that for you. Talk to Him about it.
  • Go for a hike, and thank God for Creation.
  • Set aside 10 minutes to spend in wonder at the natural world.
  • Ask God what He thinks about you. Press through your own preconceptions and self-doubt, separate those out, ignore them, and listen to what He says.

All Creatures of Our God and King

Hymn of Praise to Our Creator by St. Francis of Assisi

  1. All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
    Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam!
    • Refrain:
O praise Him! O praise Him!
      Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
  2. Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along,
    O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou rising moon, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice!
  3. Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
Make music for thy Lord to hear,
    O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
That givest man both warmth and light.
  4. And all ye men of tender heart,
    Forgiving others, take your part,
    O praise Him! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on Him cast your care!
  5. Let all things their Creator bless,
    And worship Him in humbleness,
    O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!

Bonus:

God’s extravagance in creating things for us can be seen all around if we look. Take a look at how many types of beetles there are, and then tell me God doesn’t love you. (Keep scrolling down on that page to feel extra love.)
